Welcome to my family blog, my name is Ashley and I am a 36-year-old mom of three beautiful children. In this post, I will be sharing tips and activities that can help kids relax, unwind and manage stress in a healthy way. From fidgeting and walking to dancing and spending time with friends, these strategies can be used by kids of all ages to improve their overall well-being. Let’s dive in and explore how we can help our kids take care of themselves and thrive.

When Stress Levels rise

Stress is a normal part of life. It’s how we react to stress that makes a difference. Stress can be caused by many things, such as school, family and friends, work or even our own thoughts. The good news is that stress can be positive if it motivates you to get things done.

The bad news is that if left unchecked, too much stress can cause physical and mental health problems later on in life, such as heart disease or depression. The trick is knowing how to manage your stress levels before they get out of hand!

Do something with your hands

Doing something with your hands is a simple yet effective way to promote self-care for kids. It can be a fun and engaging activity that can provide a creative outlet for kids to express themselves. Activities such as drawing, writing, and crafting can be a great way for kids to explore their creativity and to express their thoughts and feelings.

For example, drawing and coloring can be a relaxing and meditative activity for kids. It can help them to focus and to release any pent-up emotions or stress. Similarly, writing can be a great way for kids to explore their thoughts and feelings and to express themselves in a more tangible way. Whether they are writing a short story, a poem, or a journal entry, writing can be a powerful tool for kids to process their emotions and to gain a better understanding of themselves.

Crafting is also a great activity for kids to engage in, it can be anything from knitting, crocheting, or making their own jewelry, these activities can be fun and satisfying, and help them to develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

In addition to these activities, providing fidget toys such as elastic bands and stress balls can also be helpful for kids who need to fidget in order to focus. It can help to improve concentration and reduce stress and anxiety. Encourage kids to take breaks when they need it and listen to their body and mind, remind them that it is okay to take a break when they need it.

Walk around outside

Going for a walk can be a simple yet effective way to promote self-care for kids. Walking is a great way to clear your mind and to make it easier for you to think clearly about what’s bothering you. It also helps to release any pent-up emotions or stress. Additionally, walking is a great way to improve physical health and fitness.

When we walk, our body naturally releases endorphins, also known as “feel-good hormones,” which can help to improve our mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. Walking is also linked with better sleep quality in adults, and research suggests that kids who get enough exercise are able to fall asleep faster than kids who don’t get enough exercise. For children who have trouble sleeping due to stress or anxiety, making sure they fit daily walks into their schedule could be a great way to help them have fewer sleep problems.

Walking can be done alone or with friends and family, it can be a great way for kids to bond and to spend quality time together. It can also be a great way to explore the outdoors and to appreciate nature. Encourage kids to take notice of their surroundings, the trees, the birds, and the clouds, to breathe in fresh air and to move their body.

Walking can also be a great way to teach kids about mindfulness, encourage them to focus on their breath and to pay attention to their body and how it feels. Remind them that it’s okay to take a break when they need it and to listen to their body and their mind.

Dance to your Favorite song

Dancing to your favorite song is a great way to promote self-care for kids. Dancing is a fun and engaging activity that can help to improve mood and boost self-esteem. Dancing to a song that makes you happy and feel good is a great way to release pent-up emotions and stress. It can also be a great way to express oneself and to explore one’s creativity.

When we listen to music, it has the power to tap into our emotions and evoke feelings of happiness, sadness, excitement, and more. Dancing to music that makes you happy can be a great way to uplift your mood and to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It can also be a great way to boost self-esteem, as it allows kids to express themselves in a creative and playful way.

If there’s nothing on the radio but sad songs, remind kids that they can turn it off and make their own music with their body. Encourage them to sing along or to just listen to it if they don’t like to dance. The point is that whatever music makes them move, use it as an outlet for their feelings.

Dancing can also be a great way to improve physical health and fitness. It’s a fun and engaging way to get moving, and it can help kids to develop coordination and balance. Dancing is also a great way to bond with friends and family, as it can be a fun and social activity that everyone can participate in.

Go out and have fun with friends

Taking a break from your brain by going out and having fun with friends can be a great way to promote self-care for kids. It’s easy to lose yourself in a movie, at the park, or at a museum and forget about the stress and worries that may be on your mind. Going out and having fun with friends is a great way to relax and to enjoy the present moment.

Going to the movies is a great way to escape reality and lose yourself in a different world. Whether it’s a comedy, an action movie, or a drama, a movie can be a great way to relax and to forget about your problems for a little while.

Going to a park is another great way to take a break from your brain. Parks are often filled with nature and greenery, which can be calming and soothing for the mind. Going for a walk, playing on the playground, or having a picnic can be a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to forget about your worries for a little while.

Going to a museum is also a great way to take a break from your brain. Museums offer a wealth of knowledge and culture, and can be a great way to learn something new and to forget about your problems for a little while.

If you’re in town on the weekend, consider taking your kid(s) to a concert, play, game, restaurant, or party where there will be lots of people around them who also want to be there and are having fun! Being in a social environment and around people who are having fun can be contagious and can improve one’s mood.
